Our Team

EngineRm coaches are leaders in the rowing community.

And we work together as a team to create EngineRm's unique indoor rowing experience. At EngineRm, rowing is all about teamwork.

Michael Ives

The Ives family has excelled in the sport of rowing for generations. Michael has a wealth of rowing knowledge and history to inspire novices as well as veteran rowers. With his brother Chris, Michael developed the first group indoor rowing program and has been instructing indoor rowing classes in New York for two decades.

Michael learned to row at St. Paul’s School and was a member of the Yale University Men’s Heavyweight Crew from 1976-1980. Both programs enjoyed tremendous success including two Eastern Sprints Championships and two Henley Royal Regatta wins (1979 and 1980). He continues to compete as a Masters Rower and most recently raced in England with his former Yale teammates to win 2013 Masters Henley Regatta in the “E” eights. His first coach was Rich Davis, a celebrated rowing coach of more than 20 future Olympians, who is now a contributing writer for Rowing News. He was also coached by Tony Johnson, the recently retired head coach at Georgetown.
